The Path To Independence – Digital Platform

Our digital platform is a powerful, user-friendly tool designed to support care-experienced young people as they transition into adulthood.

Accessible on both mobile and desktop, the platform features interactive modules covering essential life skills such as housing, budgeting, employment, emotional well-being, healthy relationships, and more.

What sets it apart is that it’s co-designed with care-experienced young people, ensuring the content is relevant, empowering, and easy to digest.

💬 As part of the experience, young people can access engaging peer-to-peer support videos, acting as a digital mentor. These short, powerful clips feature real voices and lived experiences, helping young people feel understood, encouraged, and less alone.

📦 The platform also includes a growing Leaving Care Resource Toolbox, signposting young people to trusted services, helpful websites, and additional support — everything they need, in one place.

Training The Transition Toolkit: Thrive Into Adulthood – Webinar Overview

Our Transition Toolkit: Thrive Into Adulthood webinar is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to better support young people leaving care.

This engaging session explores the challenges care-experienced young people face when transitioning into independence and adulthood — from housing and budgeting to emotional resilience and building support networks.

A key part of the session focuses on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how these can manifest in adulthood, including through behaviours such as substance use, poor mental health, and self-sabotage.

Dougie, a care-experienced social worker and founder of The Path To Independence, shares his own powerful story of navigating the care system, overcoming adversity, and transforming trauma into growth — offering real insight into what works and why.

Participants will gain practical tools to foster confidence, independence, and a growth mindset in the young people they support — helping them not just to survive, but to thrive.
